You Did It for Me. During a post-disaster damage assessment, a local Catholic Charities agency visited the home of a 73-year-old disabled female, who was wheelchair bound. Her back door had been blown away, four windows were broken and the front door was damaged. Also, she couldn’t leave the house because the exit ramp had collapsed. Her income was less than $900 per month. Catholic Charities provided the funds for repairs, and volunteer labor did the work. They also helped her enroll in the SNAP program and Meals on Wheels. During a conversation with her case manager, the woman tearfully relayed that Catholic Charities had restored her human dignity. In 2016, 86 Catholic Charities agencies provided disaster services across the nation. To learn more, visit www.CatholicCharitiesUSA.org.

You Did It for Me. Max* is 78 and a client of two senior programs at Catholic Charities: Connections & Awareness for Elders (CAFE) and the RepPayee program. CAFE has volunteers who provide a connection to isolated older adults. Max is a widower. The stress has left him unable to manage his bills and checks. The RepPayee program assists seniors in paying bills and managing their Social Security benefits. Max started the service two years ago. He feels less stressed than ever now that he has someone to help him with his bills. In 2015, 11 percent of the client services provided by Catholic Charities agencies addressed issues of improving family economic security.
