The Stations of the Cross or Via Crucis (the Way of the Cross) are a series of depictions of Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion. The devotion visits each of the station which depicts a particular scene of Christ, accompanied by prayers and short reflections.
The stations imitate the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem— a traditional processional route which follows the path Jesus walked to Mount Calvary— and is intended to help the Christian faithful make a spiritual pilgrimage as they reflect on the Passion of Christ.
